Abstract |
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is known to be associated with chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric MALT lymphoma and gastric cancer. Eradication of H. pylori can reduce recurrence of peptic ulcer, and is highly recommended for peptic ulcer disease. In cases of gastric MALT lymphoma, endoscopic or surgical resection of early gastric cancer, family history of gastric cancer and atrophic gastritis, eradication of H. pylori is possibly recommended in many consensus reports. In Korea, eradication of H. pylori has been recommended for peptic ulcer, low grade gastric MALT lymphoma and endoscopic resection of early gastric cancer. Recently, H. pylori infection rate has been reported to be 61.3% in Korea, and proton pump inhibitor-based eradication rate has declined under 85% due to increased antibiotics-resistance rate. Herein, current status of H. pylori eradication and management strategy would be discussed. (The Korean Journal of Helicobacter and Upper Gastrointestinal Research 2009;9:18-21) |
