Abstract
Many patients experience pharyngolaryngeal complications such as minor sore throat or hoarseness after upper gastrointestinal (UGI) endoscopy. Most of these complications can be improve with conservative managements. Hospitalized case of supraglottic injury with dysphagia caused by upper G-I endoscopy have been not reported. We report a 59 year-old women with acute iatrogenic supraglottic injury with dysphagia after diagnostic UGI endoscopy that hospitalize her. She was admitted to our hospital with a 5-day history of dysphagia, poor oral intakes, sore throat, hoarseness and mild dyspnea. Her symptoms were immediately developed after diagnostic UGI endoscopy. Neck contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan and endoscopy showed diffuse thickened both aryepiglottic folds. 5 days treatment of intravenous hydration and antibiotics, proton pump inhibitor and analgegics did not improve her symptom and findings of supraglottic injury. Parenteral and oral steroid successfully reduce symptoms and endoscopic findings of this injury.
