The review [1] is well-written and provides a comprehensive overview of early diagnosis and risk assessment for gastric cancer. In Japan, the “Kyoto classification of gastritis” has been recently proposed as a method for endoscopic prediction of Helicobacter pylori infection and the associated risk of gastric cancer. While this classification is beneficial, its application outside Japan remains limited. South Korea, one of the countries with the highest incidence of gastric cancer, has implemented a national endoscopic screening program for decades. This initiative has contributed to a reduction in gastric cancer mortality. However, there still remains potential for improvement in the cancer detection rate. To enhance the detection rate of gastric cancer in South Korea’s screening program, it could be highly beneficial for Korean endoscopists to be aware of and have the chance to learn the “Kyoto classification of gastritis.” This review discusses the “Kyoto classification of gastritis” and includes representative figures, making it a timely and valuable contribution to the readers of this journal.
